Celebrating the magazine’s fifth birthday, editor-in-chief and founder Sarah Diouf reflects on the past half-decade of Ghubar’s existence, starting with the pivotal life-altering moment that changed everything for her and birthed the magazine. In it, she also features other inspiring women: Mexican-born Kenyan actress Lupita Nyong’o whose been leaving us all in tears with her award acceptance speeches, Nigerian best-selling writer Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie who made it on to Beyonce’s latest album without singing a single note, and pieces from up-and-coming award-winning South African designer Sindiso Khumalo‘sAW13 collection.

Another highlight for me in this issue is the fashion editorial shot in Dakar, Senegal, Diouf’s country of origin, and the empowering sports-meets-women-in-dresses-and-heels photoshoot.
